My Basses

After some experimentation with other basses (e.g. Aria Pro II Laser Electric, Yamaha Attitude V, Ibanez Soundgear)
I have switched almost exclusively to esh basses in about 1993.

2 esh Sovereign, NS Design NXT5, Samick AGB

From left to right: fretless Sovereign, Samick acoustic with a body of birds eye maple, NS Design NXT5,Hohner B2V and the  fretted Sovereign, .

I have installed an old MEC 2-band active electronic in the old headless Hohner B2V which is an ideal travel bass.

The fretless originally had Bartolini-PUs and a 2-band-EQ by Kent Armstrong as well as a PU-switch, right now it is fitted with black Galli nylon strings which according to an upright player have a similar vibration behaviour as his upright strings. A small drawback with these strings is the slight hum which is caused by the minimal grounding due to the strings being completely coated but I like the sound very much!

Noll TCM 3 PM B2024

As I found the 2-band EQ not flexible enough, I installed a 3-band Noll circuit TCM 3PM B2024 (bass, treble, mid with frequency control, volume, PU balance, passive switch). Thanks to the circuit being nearly completely pre-soldered and enclosed instructions on how to solder the 9 pin plug socket the installation was very easy and took me less than an hour (including removal of the old circuit).

The fretted one is equipped with an Esh-Tronic consisting of volume, tone and two switches which allow setting of PUs and active/passive with and without piezo or even complete bypass of the electronic circuit. Right now it is fitted with some no name nickel strings, before those I had elixir strings for some time, .040 up to .120/.125.

As I had to exchange the cheap Lorlin switches every 5 to 7 years I opted for somewhat more expensive Elma switches which should last at least 4 times longer according to the datasheet.
