Amplification

After playing over a large Trace Elliot rig for about 10 years (Quatra Valve with 4 x 10" and 1 x 15") and finding that rig too large and heavy (about 105 kg), I changed gear completely in 2002 and got an

WT-500 amplifier and a Hevos Donar + cabinet sporting a 15" driver, a 6" driver and a slottweeter.

This is a very nice sounding rig, powerful enough for most gigs.
The only gripe I have about this is a buzz from the WT500 which is normal according to Eden and other users.

Now I have to schlepp mere 38 kg (WT-500: 15kg incl. Case, Donar: 23 kg) with higher loudness and imho no trade-offs regarding sound.

A nice addition which lets the whole rig sound more defined and transparent ist the Auralex Gramma. There are some reviews and even sound samples on the Auralex site.

In October 2006 I treated myself with an AKG wireless system from the WMS40 series, the GB40 transmitter and the PR40 receiver. Both are exceptionally small, the picture shows the original size, and thus they are very portable. I couldn't hear any degradation in sound, yet, especially regarding low B, but will make a recording sample sometime.

As a spare or for quieter gigs I use a combination of a Hughes & Kettner Fortress preamp and a 1U power amplifier which is transportable and with 485 W (bridged) powerful enough.
